June Movie Releases
by Betty Jo Tucker

June 2010 begins and ends with fast-paced action flicks. Plus Toy Story 3, the most eagerly awaited movie of the summer, arrives at the multiplex mid-month. Fans of comedy, romance and horror also have something to look forward to in June. Check out the schedule below, but remember all release dates are subject to change.

JUNE 4:

Killers. Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl co-star as a couple on the run from unknown assassins in Robert Luketic’s rollicking action comedy.

Get Him to the Greek. The “Him” here is an out-of-control British comic, played by Russell Brand. Jonah Hill portrays the unfortunate man sent to London to fetch this difficult guy and make sure he shows up at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on a certain date to start his world tour.

Splice. What happens when the DNA of animals and humans are spliced together? Two rebellious scientists find out the terrifying consequences in this sci-fi horror flick starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley.

Ondine (limited). Shades of Splash! Fisherman Colin Farrell thinks he’s caught a mermaid (Alicja Bachleda) in his net. According to the film’s tagline, “The truth is not what you know. It’s what you believe.”

JUNE 11:

The A-Team.  In this action adventure, four Iraq War veterans are wrongly suspected of committing a crime, so they try to clear their names. Cast members include Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Jessica Biel, and Quinto “Rampage” Jackson.

The Karate Kid. “Let’s put Jackie Chan and Will Smith’s son in a remake  of this excellent old film.” “Good idea, but we gotta move the setting to China.” Done!

Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work (limited). A documentary spotlighting the life and career of snarky funny lady Joan Rivers.

JUNE 18:

Toy Story 3. When Andy leaves for college, all his toys are turned over to a day care center. What can Buzz, Woody and the rest of their delightful gang do if no one plays with them?

Jonah Hex. Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich play key roles in this thriller Western about a bounty hunter versus a deadly terrorist.

Cyrus (limited). Wonder who'll win the battle over Cyrus’ mother (Marisa Tomei). Will it be Cyrus (Jonah Hill) himself or his mom’s boyfriend (John C. Reilly)? No matter who's victorious, it should be a hoot to watch.

JUNE 25:

Grown Ups. When a high school basketball coach dies, some of his former players plan a reunion at a Fourth of July celebration – and they bring their families. Joining Adam Sandler in the intriguing cast are Chris Rock, Kevin James, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Tim Meadows, Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Steve Buscemi and Maria Bello. I’m expecting both fun and fireworks.

Knight and Day. This action comedy co-stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz as a fugitive couple as they race across the globe on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure.” But who can they trust? Maybe not even each other.

(NOTE: July 4th weekend begins on June 30th with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opening on Thursday instead of Friday, July 1st.)
