April at the Movies (2010)
by Betty Jo Tucker

Comedy is king at the multiplex this April. Among the stars showing off their comic talents are Brendan Fraser, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Jennifer Lopez, Nicolas Cage, Edward Norton and Tyler Perry. Check out the April schedule below, but remember all release dates are subject to change.

APRIL 2:

Why Did I Get Married Too? This Tyler Perry comedy focuses on four couples who spend their vacation together and try to analyze their marriages. The cast includes Perry, Janet Jackson, Cecily Tyson, Louis Gossett Jr., and Michael Jai White.

Clash of the Titans. Who ya gonna call to stop the underworld from spreading Evil throughout the world? The mortal son of Zeus, of course! Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes head up the cast in this fantasy adventure remake.

Leaves of Grass (limited). This comedy thriller, written and directed by Tim Blake Nelson, deals with efforts to bring down a local drug lord. Edward Norton, Nelson and Susan Sarandon appear in key roles.

APRIL 9:

Date Night. After lying about their identity to get a restaurant table, a husband and wife get into serious trouble in this comedy co-starring Tiny Fey and Steve Carell.

Letters to God (limited). An inspirational film about a little boy with cancer and the postman who’s concerned about what to do with the youngster’s letters to God. Tanner Maguire and Jeffrey S.S. Johnson portray the two main characters in this drama inspired by a true story.

APRIL 16:

Death at a Funeral. Chaos ensues in Neil LaBute’s comedy about family secrets exposed at a funeral ceremony. The intriguing cast includes Chris Rock, James Marsden, Zoe Saldana, Peter Dinklage, Luke Wilson, Danny Glover, Regina Hall, Tracy Morgan and Martin Lawrence.

Kick-Ass. A high school student, played by Aaron Johnson, decides to become a super hero. The problem? He has no super powers. Christopher Mintze-Plasse, Elizabeth McGovern, Mark Strong, Chloe Moretz and Nicolas Cage also appear in this action comedy.

APRIL 23:

The Losers. Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Jason Patric, Zoe Saldana and Jeffrey Dean Morgan star in this action thriller about black ops plus  betrayal and an assassination plan gone awry.

The Back-Up Plan. This romantic comedy pairs Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Laughlin as a woman who conceives twins through artificial insemination and the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, the woman meets the man after the deed is done. Oh well, we all know the road to true love can be rocky indeed. Right?

APRIL 30:

A Nightmare on Elm Street. Jackie Earle Haley plays Freddy Krueger in director Steven Bayer’s re-imagining of Wes Craven’s 1984 horror classic. Yikes! The bad dreams begin again.

Furry Vengeance. Brendan Fraser suffers the wrath of the animal kingdom as a result of his non-environmentalist approach to real estate development. The previews look very funny!
