ReelTalk Movie Reviews
Top Mystery Movies
by Betty Jo Tucker

I love a mystery -- especially an exciting and suspenseful one on film. No wonder I’m so pleased that our next “Movie Addict Headquarters” show will pay tribute to this popular genre!  Piggybacking on the American Film Institute’s TOP TEN television program of June 17, we plan to discuss the AFI’s list of nominees and to talk about our choices for designation as the “all-time best mystery movies.”

Here are a few of the 50 films nominated by AFI: The Big Sleep, Charade, Mulholland Drive, The Thin Man, To Catch a Thief, Rear Window, The Bourne Identity, In the Heat of the Night, The Fugitive, Rebecca and The Usual Suspects.

Respected film critic Diana Saenger from Classic Movie Guide will be the featured guest on this special BlogTalkRadio program scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. Diana, a regular contributor to ReelTalk Reviews, is the entertainment editor for the East County Gazette, a senior writer for Script Magazine, film critic for the La Jolla Light, The Del Mar Times, the Solana Beach Sun, and Carmel Valley Leader. She operates her own entertainment syndicate, Saenger Syndicate, and has sold more than 1,000 short stories, articles or features to newspapers and magazines. Her articles or quotes have appeared in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety and San Diego Union Tribune.

An award-winning journalist, Diana has received numerous honors from California Media Professionals, San Diego Press Club and the National Federation of Press Women. She is past president of the San Diego Film Critics Society and the author of Everyone Wants My Job: the ABC's of Entertainment Writing.

What’s your favorite mystery film? Is it North by Northwest? Or Memento? Or Chinatown? Or a movie from the earlier days of Hollyood -- like Laura? Or something else entirely?  We’d love to hear from you. Listeners are invited to call the show or to participate in a chat during the live broadcast. The number to call is 646-478-5668.
