ReelTalk Movie Reviews
Todd Langen's Wacky Sense of Humor
by Betty Jo Tucker

I receive many independent movies to review, but 42 Story House stands out as one of the most memorable, probably because of filmmaker Todd Langen’s wacky sense of humor.  His hilarious 90-minute movie contains 42 short films, each from 1 to 4 minutes in length, and all of them take place in or around Langen’s house.  Langen, who uses simple everyday things to make his comic points, is scheduled to visit BlogTalkRadio’s “Movie Addict Headquarters” on Tuesday, August 7, to talk about his film. The show will air at 4 p.m. Eastern Time and can be accessed later as an archived segment.

Serving as a one-man film crew on his debut as an indie moviemaker, Langen is the cinematographer, director, writer, star and special effects guy for 42 Story House. His sound effects still have me chuckling! Just try making your voice sound like a depressed egg or a household appliance in heat and you’ll see how difficult a task that is.

As the host of “Movie Addict Headquarters,” I can hardly wait to ask Langen about why he decided to make 42 Story House, which parts of the film are his favorites, what he enjoyed most while making the movie, and where he gets his deliciously wacky sense of humor.

Langen’s credentials include writing screenplays for the first two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies and scripts for TV’s The Wonder Years. He earned an Emmy nomination in 1989 for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy for his “Coda” episode of The Wonder Years and received a 1990 Humanitas Prize for his work on that excellent television series. However, Langen claims his achievement of complete world domination is still pending.
