Animation Gone Wild
by
My apologies to Chip and Dale. I had them mixed up with Alvin and the Chipmunks. But, hey, how many chipmunks are making movies? So sorry I missed out on the screen appearances they made since their debut with Disney back in 1943 when they started working in various short cartoons. My research reveals they got their own show in 1988 as the “Rescue Rangers,” which lasted until 1990. And now, in 2022 here they are in their brand new film titled Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
In this frenzied animated offering, Chip and Dale haven’t seen each other for years. They broke up after the “Rescue Rangers” show ended. Dale (voiced by Andy Samberg) decided to go on his own to prove he wasn’t “the stupid one” of the team. And Chip (voiced by John Mulaney) went into the insurance business.
We can’t help feeling sorry for Chip and Dale because they had been close friends for such a long time. But, don’t worry, folks. Things are about to change for our two heroes.
Together again are Chip ‘n Dale.
Will their friendship survive or fail?
They team up to find an old friend.
He’s missing and to what cruel end?
Cartoon characters fill the screen.
So many you may want to scream.
You’ll be busy trying to see
everyone in this wild movie.
Animation of all types go
In and out of this picture show.
Live actors also turn up here.
It’s goofy fun. Don’t shed a tear!
Many fans of animation will appreciate this tribute to the different types showcased in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. It’s almost like an animation history. My problem was trying to keep up with everything thrown at us. And I don’t remember laughing at anything. Yet this is supposed to be a comedy. But, in all fairness, the adventure Chip and Dale undertake to find their missing friend is quite exciting.
Also on the positive side, all the voice actors deserve praise. In addition to Samberg and Mulaney, this list includes Seth Rogan, J.K. Simmons, Dennis Haysbert, Eric Bana, Keegan-Michael Key, and Will Arnett. I also enjoyed Kiki Layne, a live actor who impressed me with her character’s enthusiasm for Chip and Dale.
It’s no surprise that animation is Hollywood’s most successful and inventive genre. – Dwayne Johnson
