Funny and Inspiring

YouTube Videos are now considered among the arts. Hundreds of writers plus anyone who likes to entertain and receive money have joined this new arena. Selfie Dad, starring comedian Michael Jr., pivots from theatrical to PVOD release for Father’s Day and is scheduled to be shown in some movie theaters.
Ben Marcus (Michael Jr.) isn’t quite keeping up in supporting his family that includes his wife Jessica,(Dahlia Waingort), daughter Hannah (Shelby Simmons), and son Jack (Jalon Christian). When Ben begins to look for a job, Jack leads him on how to get a lot of money. Ben seems unsure about doing YouTube funny videos until Jack shows him -- on his computer -- that large amounts of money are being made by people making funny stories on video. Ben then cleans out the garage to find room for his own shows.
After Jessica tells him to fix their broken toilet, Ben agrees. When he’s in the garage for several hours, a huge crash can be heard upstairs, and now he’s in the YouTube world. Ben’s funny story does receive some laughs but not enough to get a paycheck. Luckily, his people at work help him. He meets Steve (James Denton) and Mickey (Johnny Pacar), who wants to be a pastor to guide Ben in one way or another. Rosie (Chonda Pierce) has a YouTube about roses and is assigned to have Ben film it. She is very funny in her show. But a few days later, Rosie is upset because Ben did something wrong and loses his job again. However, Mickey keeps telling him to read his Bible and God will answer his prayers.
Meanwhile at home, Hannah disappears. Also, Carol (Karen Abercrombie ) and Jessica are praying for Ben to keep his job so they can pay their bills and be ok. Ben tries hard and wins some trophies which improve his esteem. But will he be open to hearing the Word of God -- and allow his heart and life to be truly changed?
Cast members perform their characters well here. As Little Jack, Jalon is really amazing playing a guide helping his dad. This film ends up being both funny and inspiring. It gives us calm breaths during this difficult time in our world.
Selfie Dad will debut on premium Video on Demand on Friday, June 19, 2020, and on digital platforms everywhere.
