James Horner: Film Music from the Heart
by
On July 7, Movie Addict Headquarters pays tribute to James Horner, the composer of such memorable movie scores as Titanic, A Beautiful Mind, Avatar, Braveheart, Field of Dreams and The Spiderwick Chronicles. Noted film critics Richard Jack Smith and A.J. Hakari join in this celebration of Horner’s impressive contributions to the cinema. Smith is the soundtrack reviewer for ReelTalk Movie Reviews, and Hakari contributes movie reviews to various sites including his own popular blog CineSlice.
“James Horner touched my heart with his beautiful music and I will miss him,” Smith said upon hearing of Horner’s passing. Hakari calls Horner the man behind the music for some of his favorite childhood films and for many he has enjoyed as a grownup.
Sadly, Horner died in a plane crash on June 22nd at age 61. He left behind a remarkable reputation as one of the greatest film composers of all time. He boasts 125 composing credits on the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDb). His score for Titanic earned him an Oscar, and his “My Heart Will Go On” song won an Academy Award as Best Original Song the same year. Plus, Horner received many additional Oscar nominations during his illustrious career. Here’s a list of his other Academy Award nominated film scores: Avatar, House of Sand and Fog, A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, Braveheart, Field of Dreams, An American Tail, Aliens.
Horner also won two Golden Globe Awards, three Satellite Awards, three Saturn Awards, and has been nominated for three British Academy Film Awards.
