The Shawshank Redemption 20th Anniversary
by
Movie Addict Headquarters celebrates the 20th Anniversary of The Shawshank Redemption during a special episode scheduled for December 16th on BlogTalkRadio. Joining the festivities are film historian James Colt Harrison and Diana Saenger, founder of Classic Movie Guide. Plus, cast members Morgan Freeman, Clancy Brown and Gil Bellows have been invited to share their comments about working on this remarkable movie.
Released in October of 1994, The Shawshank Redemption received seven Academy Award nominations. Both Freeman, who earned a Best Actor nomination, and Tim Robbins practically transformed themselves into two unconventional prisoners for their key roles in this acclaimed motion picture. Their splendid portrayals helped viewers understand the virtue of patience and hope. Clancy Brown excelled as a stern guard, and Gil Bellows earned praise for his turn as an unlucky young prisoner who becomes the catalyst for big changes in the lives of the two main characters.
Masterfully adapted (from a Stephen King story) and directed by Frank Darabont, The Shawshank Redemption garnered numerous awards. For example, in addition to the Oscar nominations, the film won the Humanitas Prize, the Crystal Heart Award from the Heartland Film Fest, and was among the National Board of Review’s Top Ten Films of 1994.
Film critics James Colt Harrison and Diana Saenger recently attended an important event recognizing the 20th Anniversary of The Shawshank Redemption at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. They have agreed to share their reactions concerning that experience with listeners during this episode. James served as the premier film critic for the La Jolla Village News and has contributed film commentary for Rage Monthly, No Cover Music Magazine and San Diego Metro Weekly. Diana Saenger not only heads up Classic Movie Guide, she’s also entertainment editor for the San Diego East County Gazette and operates her own site called Review Express.
