Rocky Horror Time

On October 9, Movie Addict HQ revisits The Rocky Horror Picture Show with actor Barry Bostwick, who talks about his memorable experiences while filming this outrageous cult classic. Start celebrating Halloween early by joining in the fun and doing “The Time Warp” again!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show makes fun of B-movies, science-fiction and horror films from the 1940s through the 1970s. Adapted from the British rock musical written by Richard O’Brien, the movie was directed by Jim Sharman -- and Tim Curry made his dynamic film debut as the flamboyant transvestite, Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Bostwick and Susan Sarandon play an innocent couple who stumble into the Doctor’s Annual Transylvania Convention, with shocking results for everyone involved.
Surprisingly, Rocky Horror bombed when it first opened in 1975, but those entertaining midnight showings soon catapulted the film into cult status. Sarandon admits that of all her movies, this is the one that should be placed in a time capsule. And the film got a big boost when TV’s Glee featured its own version of the musical numbers. That episode became the most popular one of the series.
Why has this bizarre movie pleased so many fans through the years? Critic Joshua Vasquez explains that it has “acquired the aura of a ‘lived’ experience more than merely a ‘watched’ one; the evolution of the film into a ‘midnight movie’ cult has transformed the relationship between viewer and film into a procession of textual give and take.”
According to Vasquez, Rocky Horror “formed its own sub-societal order of loyal followers who drape themselves in the folds of the film's own air of manic theatrical display, and through this transformation, the film becomes something more than entertainment.”
“Rocky Horror Time” airs on BlogTalkRadio at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time) on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. During the live show, listeners are invited to participate in a chat about the movie. An archived segment will also be available.
