Q&A with The Rock and Peter Berg
by
At a special pre-opening screening of Universal's The Rundown, an enthusiastic San Diego audience eagerly awaited the end of the action-packed film to hold a question and answer session with The Rock and director Peter Berg.
Question (To the Rock): There were a lot of incredible stunts in this film. Did you do your own stunts?
Answer: Basically, except for that one huge one where Seann Williams Scott and I both tumble down the mountain. Actually my cousin, who is my stunt double, took that fall and ended up breaking an ankle.
Added Peter Berg: The Rock is willing to do everything, which was a great asset for filming, but also a big risk. We would have been screwed if he got hurt. But he's a good man.
Question (To the Rock): How did you cover up your tattoos?
Answer: It took a lot of work. This one (dropping shirt from one shoulder), as you can see, is huge and took 35 hours to get, it's my life story as a Samoan and Tahitian.
Question (To Peter Berg): The movie went through a lot of title changes -- why?
Answer: Originally it was Helldarado, which I liked. One day we were sitting around the set and I made the comment, I wonder if you can market a movie with the word hell in the title? A few days later a memo came down from Universal saying, 'We can't market a movie with the word hell in the title, change it.' The title The Rundown came from them. It's good.
Question (To Peter Berg): You are also a great actor, will you return to acting?
Answer: I enjoy acting but I've been directing for a few years now, but if I find the time and a part, yes.
Question (To the Rock): How is the King Kamama project coming along?
Answer: It's moving forward. It's a great story.
Question (To the Rock): I noticed one of the characters in the film is wearing a scorpion medallion on a chain. Was that intentional?
Answer: Sure
Question (To the Rock): How many times a day do you work out?
Answer: Once a day.
Question (To the Rock): Do you have any aspirations to produce or direct?
Answer: No. Right now I'm busy finishing Walking Tall.
Question (To Peter Berg): Christopher Walken is an incredible actor and played a great Hatcher. How was it to work with him?
Answer: Incredible. The first few days he was on the set I had to keep asking myself, is this really happening. And he would walk on the set with his 'What?' 'What is wrong with you people?' and he made every one smile. He brings very good energy to set the set. He does weird trippy things and funny things continually come out of his mouth. One thing I remember that was really funny, he heard the Rolling Stones were coming in a concert and he wanted all of us to go as a group. He kept talking about it and finally someone told him their concert was October 15. Christopher said, 'Yeah, so?' Then we told him it was already November. 'Oh, yeah. I knew that,' he said.
