Madeline Kahn Tribute
by
Madeline Kahn, one of filmdom’s great comic actresses, will be honored by Movie Addict Headquarters on December 6. Madeline lent her considerable talents to such wonderful movies as Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, High Anxiety, Paper Moon, Won Ton Ton: The Dog Who Saved Hollywood, and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother.
Film historian James Colt Harrison and comedian Nancy Lombardo plan to join in paying tribute to Madeline during this special episode. Plus George Bettinger, host of “The Mom & Pop Shop Internet Radio Show,” has given permission to include a delightful interview he had with Madeline during the height of her popularity. Gene Wilder and Bill Cosby, who both worked with Madeline, have also been invited to call in.
Although earning a degree in speech therapy and receiving training as an opera singer, Madeline Kahn became famous as a highly popular star of film, stage and TV. During the course of her illustrious career, she appeared in over 40 films and television shows, garnering two Oscar nominations and four Golden Globe nominations. She also won a Tony Award as Best Actress in The Sisters Rosensweig and a People’s Choice Award in 1984 as Best New TV Performer as well as a Daytime Emmy Award in 1987 for her Outstanding Performance in an After School Special.
Madeline's portrayal of Lili Von Shtupp in Blazing Saddles was named #74 on Premier Magazine’s list of the 100 greatest film performances of all time. When Madeline passed away in December of 1999, she was only 57 years old.
