Ross Thomas & 'Soul Surfer'
by
Actor, philanthropist and musician Ross Thomas drops by Movie Addict Headquarters on April 12th to talk about starring in the highly anticipated film drama Soul Surfer as well as his other roles in such movies as The Cutting Edge: Going for the Gold, Dance Flick, and Shelter. Ross can currently be seen on TV’s General Hospital, in which he plays a hardened criminal, and has appeared on television in Beyond the Break, Lie to Me, CSI, CSI: NY, Cold Case, and Living with Fran. He’s also the drummer in the indie folk rock band Outlaws and Astronomers.
In the movie Soul Surfer, which is based on an amazing true story, Ross stars as Noah, the older brother of shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton, a young professional surfer who fights to overcome the loss of her arm in order to achieve her dream of winning the National Championship. The cast also includes Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, AnnaSophia Robb, and Carrie Underwood.
In addition to his acting career, Ross is actively involved with the Survival International and Amazon Watch organizations. He’s a major advocate of Indigenous rights and rainforest preservation – and spent months in the Southern Peruvian Amazon last year shooting/producing a documentary called Extraction: The Plundering of the Amarakaeri Preserve in order to bring awareness of Hunt Oil’s encroachment surrounding the area and the people that live there.
Ross loves to surf, snowboard, wakeboard, rock climb, skydive, sail, fish, and travel. He’s been all over North/Central/South America, Europe, Southeast Asia and plans to go to India and Africa next.
