A Comic Gem
by
Adam Corya and Marty Allain promise to regale listeners with interesting stories from the set of The Mini during their Movie Addict Headquarters interview on Tuesday, July 13. An indie comedy gem, The Mini is about a loser who ends up surprising everyone. Adam served as producer for this family-friendly movie about a down-on-his-luck futon salesman who runs a mini-marathon to get ahead in the bedding business. Marty served as post producer for -- and acted in -- the film, which has received considerable acclaim on the festival circuit and was released recently on DVD.
Adam and Marty are two of a handful of high school and college friends recruited by first time director Ron Beck to begin the arduous task of shooting a feature film with over 40 speaking parts, hundreds of extras, and 70 plus locations with only $25,000. Filmed on one camera and using Indiana University student interns as crew, The Mini went on to win several film festival awards around the country including Best of Fest at Temecula Valley International Film Festival, Best Comedy at Bluegrass Independent Film Festival, Best Narrative Feature at Foursite Film Festival, and the Audience Choice Award at the da Vinci Film Festival.
Shot exclusively in and around Indianapolis, Indiana -- a city unaccustomed to feature productions -- the film became one of only a handful of independent productions shot exclusively in Indiana in the last 25 years that can boast national distribution.
Adam, who lives in Indianapolis, is a program manager at VMS, a biomarketing firm. The Mini is his first and only film production. Marty made his acting debut in The Mini as an auto mechanic who makes life difficult for the film’s protagonist. In his spare time, he’s an attorney and aspiring screenwriter. Marty is currently writing a screenplay with the working title Mattress Mavericks with The Mini’s associate producer Kevin Bar, who works with MTV in New York City.
High praise for the film comes from acclaimed director John Landis (Animal House, Trading Places, The Blues Brothers, Coming to America) who called The Mini, “A very funny, heartwarming comedy.”
Adam and Marty’s interview airs on BlogTalkRadio at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time) on Tuesday, July 13. During the live show, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available.
