In today’s world of “me, me, me” many families fall apart. That’s the story in Forever My Girl. It’s about Liam Page (Alex Roe/The 5th Wave), who left his wife Josie Preston (Jessica Rothe/(Happy Death Day) at the altar in St. Augustine, Louisiana, to pursue a career as a country singer. It’s now eight years later and Liam has reached his goal. He’s a superstar with a well-known band. He gets a call from his dad, a local pastor, to come home and attend one of Liam’s friends’ funeral.

Tired but needing to go, Liam receives an ok from his manager and heads home. He stays at his dad’s house and gets more father/son advice than expected. During a few trips around town, Liam notices a lot of unfriendly stares from the locals. Naturally in a small town, it was obvious that Liam would run into Josie, and he does.

Rothe is wonderful portraying Josie. At her first glimpse of Liam, her facial expression mirrors the one on her face when she was told he was not coming to their wedding. (At that same time he had a call making him an offer for a spot in a band, which he took without talking to her.)

It’s not long before Liam discovers a small girl named Billy (Abby Ryder Forston), who is always with Josie. Could she possibly be his daughter? He approaches Josie, who -- although she has conversations with him -- still seems a little icy and appears to be holding back anything she feels for Liam.

Bethany Ashton Wolf adapted the screenplay from Forever My Girl, a book by Heidi McLaughlin. Wolf also directs. This interesting story emphasizes the changes in Josie, Liam, and Pastor Brian (John Benjamin Hickey), Liam’s father.

The film’s love story also resonated with Wolf. “I wouldn’t say I’m a hopeless romantic — I think I’m a hopeful romantic,” she said. “I think love is at the heart of everything that we do as human beings. So whatever story I’m telling I’ll always infuse love and romance into it because everything we do in life involves that universal feeling and emotion.”

The sweetest part of this film involves music, forgiveness, laughter and love. Plus, wow can Forston sing and play a guitar! Forever My Girl ends up as a great film for families, young adults and teens.
