Cyber Gold
by
Imagination can be a tricky place. From the pen of William Gibson came cyberpunk, a genre tying the destiny of man to artificial intelligence. While his science-fiction output occasionally wandered towards self-indulgence, big ideas prevailed. From this creative flux emerged films such as Dark City, The Matrix and Ghost in the Shell. Directed by Rupert Sanders, the latter presents an imaginative take sans cliché.
Feeling only a poem can do justice to Ghost in the Shell, here’s my interpretation:
Ideas to find
Open the mind.
Ghost in the Shell
Works effective spell.
Trigger frozen past
And have a blast!
Look inside this crystal.
Imagination dominates every vessel.
Network where secrets dwell
Glitches evoke identity piecemeal.
A journey that cinema defines
While uncovering precious mines.
Food for eye and brain
Sculptured as a well-made cane.
Cityscape blooms day and night
Artificially enhanced, soldiers in sight.
Scarlett Johansson poised for leap
Fearless no matter how steep.
Personality forms a swirling morass
Questions concern ruling brass.
Those in power withhold data
Persistence leaves a big crater.
Spider tank emits costly ruse
Although hero might find the fuse!
The plan stunningly wrought
Of a woman who fought.
She might uncover facts unnerving
Against bad guys she’s swerving.
While temptation might favour set over script
It rarely blocks such a crypt.
Into ourselves every painting drawn
Even those we cherish and mourn.
An experience that gains
As darkest cloud rains.
Familiar yet fresh all at once.
Think about giving the film a bounce.
(Released by Paramount Pictures and rated "PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi content and some disturbing images.)
