You Get Me follows Tyler, a high school student, who faces a serious problem after spending an erotic night with Holly, a beautiful stranger. Unfortunately for Tyler, Holly turns out to be the new girl at his school.  And to make matters worse, Alison, his real girlfriend, hasn’t dumped him -- which is what he thought happened before hooking up with Holly.

Will Holly tell Alison about her boyfriend’s infidelity? If not, how will Tyler deal with this secret? And how far out of control can a jealous Holly get?

If you love thrillers like I do, this kind of story should appeal to you. However, everything that happens must seem real to make things work. With You Get Me, suspending disbelief becomes difficult early on because the actors look too old to be high school students. There’s nothing wrong with the acting, just the optics. Taylor John Smith (wonderful in Wolves), who plays Tyler, excels at showing his character’s frustration. Bella Thorne (The Duff) makes a sexy femme fatale as Holly; and Halston Sage (Goosebumps) succeeds in depicting Alison as a girl with a past who now wants to be good and do the right thing.

Whether intentional or not, all three of these main characters fail to rank high on the likeability scale -- although Tyler comes close in a couple of short scenes with his little sister, played by the darling Farrah Mackenzie (Logan Lucky).   

Predictability is another problem here. And that’s not a good thing for a thriller.  You Get Me kept reminding me of Fatal Attraction. I even started looking for a dead rabbit to show up.

Sexy gal seduces a guy

who loves another, my oh my!

She’s mad as heck, and he’s afraid

his love will find the mess he’s made.

We’ve seen this plot in film before.

Fatal Attraction – not a bore.

But You Get Me lacks that film’s flair

and characters for whom we care.

Yet camera work should be praised.

The thriller look it really raised.

And scary scenes some chills provide.

For teens, this might be quite a ride.
