Edison's Frankenstein
by Betty Jo Tucker

Fred Wiebel, Jr. drops by Movie Addict Headquarters on March 23rd to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the first film appearance of Mary Shelley’s iconic monster. Wiebel is the author of Edison’s Frankenstein, a well-researched and entertaining book about the making of the movie, its disappearance and rediscovery.

Wiebel helped find, restore and facilitate the production of the first DVD release of the Frankenstein film. He has screened and lectured about this historic movie at various institutions, universities and film conventions including The Monster Bash and Chiller events. Wiebel also cooperated with others to produce a graphic novel, Edison’s Frankenstein 1910, published by Comic International Library in 2003. He has received many honors and accolades -- including a letter of recommendation from the Library of Congress -- for his efforts in connection with Edison’s Frankenstein. Articles about Wiebel and his work have appeared in The New York Post, The Washington Times. The Herald-Mail and numerous other publications.

As a leading authority on the Frankenstein film, Wiebel has been consulted by authors, scholars, students and institutions from around the world. His diverse background also includes working in broadcasting in the Washington, DC area as programmer, commercial voice-over artist, talk radio commentator and host of his own programs, playing novelty and comedy records as “Grosso the Clown.” Plus he had a weekly radio show, “Blue Notes,” where he played a mix of traditional and contemporary Blues musicians. With such an interesting background, Wiebel should be a fascinating guest!

Fred Wiebel’s interview airs on BlogTalkRadio on Tuesday, March 23, at 4 p.m. Eastern Time (1 p.m. Pacific Time). During the live show, listeners are invited to call in and to participate in a chat. An archived segment will also be available.
