A Surprising Romantic Treat
by
Tramps follows Ellie and Danny, two complete strangers, who become reluctant partners in crime. Happily, this surprisingly romantic offering co-stars young actors who show great chemistry together on screen. Callum Turner (Green Room) plays the mild-mannered and sweet Danny; Grace Van Patten (Wilde Wedding) is the assertive, mysterious Ellie. The slow-blooming attraction these characters have for each other is a treat to watch.
How did Danny and Ellie get involved in a shady deal? Good question! Danny’s mother forced him to help his brother (Michal Vondel/My Crazy Love), and Ellie is desperate for the money she will be paid. They are each assured that everything has been well planned. All they have to do is exchange one briefcase for another. So off they go on a frustrating adventure through New York, one that ends up with them trying to find a particular woman with a green purse.
When things go wrong, what is the flaw?
Is it bad luck or Murphy’s law?
Tramps presents a case to ponder.
Fate, maybe -- I have to wonder.
A young woman and a young man,
strangers, become part of a plan.
They’re forced to do a shady deal
no matter how they really feel.
A briefcase switch has been arranged.
Mishaps occur and things are changed,
while feelings for each other grow.
We want them safe. That’s all we know.
Production values may not be great
but romance here I highly rate
and hope you get a chance to see
this film that was a treat for me.
Written and directed by Adam Leon (Gimme the Loot), Tramps wisely capitalizes on the “opposites attract” situation as well as on the intriguing chemistry between Danny and Ellie. Although the plot seems a bit confusing at times, we are charmed by Danny, who just wants to be a chef, and fascinated by the enigmatic Ellie. We are simply content to watch their attitudes about each other change as the story unfolds.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m a sucker for “opposites attract” screen romances. As proof, please check out my reviews of Two Weeks Notice and Pride & Prejudice.
