February Movie Releases (2010)
by Betty Jo Tucker

Two romantic films arrive in our multiplexes in time for Valentine’s Day this year, but the rest of the February schedule appears devoted to action, mystery, fantasy and horror. Check out the offerings below, but remember all release dates are subject to change.

FEBRUARY 5:

Dear John. Based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, this dramatic love story co-stars Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, two very talented young actors. I fear tissues will be required.

From Paris with Love. In this action thriller, John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers play characters who try to stop a Paris terrorist attack -- and they have to do it without  Jack Bauer.

FEBRUARY 12:

The Wolfman. Benecio del Toro portrays the title character in this atmospheric horror film which also stars Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt. The previews look amazing!

Valentine’s Day. Filmmaker Garry Marshall has put together a stellar cast for his romantic comedy about how the February holiday impacts several couples. Here’s the impressive list: Julia Roberts, Patrick Dempsey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Hector Elizondo, Queen Latifah, Anne Hathaway, Bradley Cooper, Topher Grace, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Eric Dane, Kathy Bates, Taylor Lautner, George Lopez.

My Name Is Khan. When Rizwan Kahn’s Asperger syndrome is mistaken for suspicious behavior, he’s arrested at LAX. After receiving help from a therapist, Rizwan -- played by Shahrukh Kahn -- wants to meet President Obama to clear his name. Christopher B. Buncan portrays Obama in this unusual drama based on a true story.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. What happens when a teenager finds out he’s the descendant of a Greek god? This fantasy adventure tells a whale of a tale and stars Logan Lerman as the title character,  Kevin McKidd as Poseidon, Uma Thurman as Medusa, Sean Bean as Zeus and Rosario Dawson as Persephone.  Pierce Brosnan also appears in a key role.

FEBRUARY 19:

Shutter Island. Martin Scorsese directed this haunting mystery starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a U.S. Marshal investigating the disappearance of a murderess from an insane asylum. The cast also includes Mark Ruffalo, Michelle Williams and Ben Kingsley.

FEBRUARY 26:

The Crazies. Sci-fi horror ensues as the residents of a small town suffer from insanity -- and worse -- after their water supply becomes contaminated. Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell co-star.

Cop Out. Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan banter with each other in this action comedy about the humorous adventures of two cops. Seann William Scott, Michelle Trachtenberg, Kevin Pollak, Jason Lee and Susie Essman are along for the bumpy ride.

The Yellow Handkerchief (L.A. & N.Y.).  Three lonely strangers – played by William Hurt, Kristen Stewart and Eddie Redmayne -- share a road trip through Louisiana. How will each one change as a result of their dramatic journey together?
