November Film Schedule (2009)
by
If you’re a George Clooney fan or love animated films, sci-fi thrillers and Twilight, this year’s November movie schedule should please you. Take a look at the releases below, but remember all dates are subject to change.
NOVEMBER 6:
A Christmas Carol. Jim Carrey lends his considerable voice talent to this Walt Disney animated version of Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday classic. This one should look great on IMAX and 3-D.
If It Ain’t Broke, Break It (limited). When a physician learns he has only 6 months to live, he decides to spend it improving the lives of six of his friends. Of course, his plans backfire. Dr. Ravi Godse wrote, directed and stars in this unusual comedy. Richard Kind, Steve Guttenberg, and Sabrina Bryan also play key roles here.
The Fourth Kind. Milla Jovovich and Elias Koteas co-star in this sci-fi thriller about strange disappearances in Alaska.
Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire (limited). An illiterate pregnant teen enrolls in an alternate school in this compelling drama. Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe portrays the title role.
The Box. Another sci-fi thriller -- but this one stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a married couple who become wealthy after receiving a mysterious box. The catch? Someone they don’t know is killed because of their decision about the title object.
The Men Who Stare at Goats. Psychic soldiers? Sounds incredible, and yet this comedy is based on a U.S. military unit that used paranormal training to help with their missions. It stars George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey. Here’s hoping no goats were harmed during filming.
NOVEMBER 13:
2012. Filmmaker Roland Emmerich offers his explosive take on what the end of the world will look like. John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Woody Harrelson, Oliver Platt, Thandie Newton and Danny Glover portray characters struggling to survive.
Pirate Radio: The Boat That Rocked. This period comedy deals with an illegal radio station in the North Sea back in the 1960s. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Bill Nighy look very funny in the previews.
Fantastic Mr. Fox. Based on Roald Dahl’s novel about farmers trying to get rid of a sly fox and his family, this animated film features the voice talents of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe and Helen McCrory.
NOVEMBER 20:
Planet 51. Little green creatures fear invasion from human aliens in this animated adventure. Nice twist! Voice talent includes Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jessic Biel, John Cleese, Justin Long and Gary Oldman.
New Moon. The further adventures -- romantic and otherwise -- of our favorite Twilight characters. I can hardly wait!
The Blind Side. In this sports drama based on the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless African-American teenager is taken in by a well-to-do white family who help him become a successful student and football player. Sandra Bullock, Quintan Aaron, Tim McGraw and Kathy Bates appear in key roles.
Broken Embraces (limited). Directed by Pedro Almodovar, this romantic thriller stars Lluis Homar and Penelope Cruz as a blind writer and the love of his life, respectively.
NOVEMBER 25:
Old Dogs. John Travolta and Robin Williams play two friends who meet their match in 7-year-old twins. The cast also includes Justin Long, Kelly Preston, Seth Green and Dax Shepard.
The Road. A man and his son try to survive after the apocalypse in this thought-provoking film starring Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Robert Duvall.
Ninja Assassin. Two ninjas clash in this action thriller directed by James McTeigue.
Me and Orson Welles (New York & Los Angeles). Zac Efron portrays a teenager who finagles a part in Orson Welles’ Broadway production of Julius Caesar, and Christian McKay takes on the role of Orson Welles in this drama directed by Richard Linklater.
