Simply Misunderstood
by
Aaron Eckhart has given us some terrific performances. His work in Erin Brockovich and The Core are among my favourites. For I, Frankenstein, he plays the re-animated monster made famous by Boris Karloff in 1931.
A war between demons and gargoyles forces Adam (Eckhart) to choose a side. However, he travels his own path until circumstances lead him back into the conflict.
My peers seem to have treated I, Frankenstein with indifference. That's a shame because there's so much to enjoy here. Gothic lighting establishes the tone as cameraman Ross Emery paints with shadows. Also, Marcus D'Arcy's editing contains some brilliant montages, which rank as the best of 2014 so far.
Like the monster himself, I, Frankenstein doesn't have a bad heart. It's simply misunderstood. (Capsule review)
Released by Lionsgate Home Entertainment and rated "PG-13" for sequences of intense action and violence throughout.
