Hooray! Movie fans get to start out the new year with some of our favorite stars -- including Kate Hudson, Brendan Fraser, Daniel Craig, Angela Bassett, Mickey Rourke, David Strathairn, Renee Zellweger, Liam Neeson, Diane Lane, Gary Oldman, Don Cheadle and Helen Mirren. Below is the release schedule for January, 2009. But remember that all dates are subject to change.  

 JANUARY 9

Bride Wars. Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson portray best friends who their schedule weddings on the same day. What a perfect way to break up a friendship! But it’s also an amusing premise for a film comedy.  

The Unborn. What should a young woman do when a spirit is trying to take possession of her body?  Fight, of course. Odette Yustman stars in this supernatural thriller, and Gary Oldman plays the haunted girl’s spiritual advisor.

Not Easily Broken. Temptation to break their marriage vows faces a husband and wife portrayed by Morris Chestnut and Taraji P. Henson in this drama directed by Bill Duke.

JANUARY 16

My Bloody Valentine 3-D. Jensen Ackles plays a man accused of murders that happened ten years ago during “the Valentine’s night massacre” in his home town. Fortunately, his former sweetheart, portrayed by Jaime King, believes he’s innocent. Hope he gives her a big box of chocolates!

Notorious. This biography tells the life and death story of rapper Notorious B.I.G. Jamal Woolard, Angela Bassett and Derek Luke appear in the film’s star-studded cast.

Defiance. Daniel Craig, Liev Schrieber and Jamie Bell play three Jewish brothers who escape the Nazis and build a community in the forest. Lots of action and outstanding cinematography enliven this excellent war drama.    

Hotel for Dogs. Stray dogs are secretly taken care of by two youngsters in this family comedy. The cast includes Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austin, Lisa Kudrow, Don Cheadle and Kevin Dillon.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Kevin James is a mild-mannered security guard who must save his shopping mall from a bunch of crooks. Will he succeed? I’m betting on it, but not until some very funny slapstick scenes take place.  

JANUARY 23

Inkheart.  How’s this for a fantasy? A man -- who has the ability to bring characters from books to real life -- must use this skill to catch a  dangerous villain. Brendan Fraser heads an intriguing cast that includes Eliza Bennett, Helen Mirren and Paul Bettany. 

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. Aristocratic vampires and their one-time werewolf slaves, called Lycans, begin a feud destined to last for centuries. Rhona Mitra, Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy share key acting duties in this horror prequel.

Killshot. Sometimes the Witness Protection Program can’t protect its witnesses. This thriller stars Diane Lane, Mickey Rourke, Thomas Jane and Rosario Dawson star in a story about such a case.

Possession.  A freak accident sends two brothers into comas. When one of the victims wakes up, he thinks he’s his brother. Imagine the surprise for his sister-in-law! Sarah Michelle Gellar and Lee Pace co-star in this romantic thriller.       

JANUARY 30

The Uninvited. Some people have very bad luck. Just ask Anna who, after being released from a mental hospital, finds a ghost living in her house. Emily Browning, Elizabeth Banks and David Strathairn head up the cast in this horror flick.   

Taken. When a former spy’s estranged daughter is forced into the slave trade, the man must use all his skills to save her. Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace play father and daughter here.  

New in Town. Renee Zellweger portrays a high-powered Miami  businesswoman sent to oversee the restructuring of a manufacturing plant in a small Minnesota town. This romantic comedy also stars Harry Connick Jr. and Nathan Fillion.
