San Diego Critics Love 'Slumdog Millionaire'

How much do members of the San Diego Film Critics Society love Slumdog Millionaire? Let me count the ways. The group not only chose this drama about a young man’s epic upbringing in India as Best Picture of 2008 but also gave it five other important awards: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Musical Score.
Awards handed out in other categories on December 15 were:
Best Actor -- Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler
Best Actress -- Kate Winslet for The Reader
Best Supporting Actress -- Marisa Tomei for The Wrestler
Best Supporting Actor -- Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight
Best Original Screenplay -- The Visitor
Best Animated Movie -- WALL-E
Best Foreign Language Film -- Let the Right One In
Best Documentary -- Man on Wire
Best Ensemble -- Frost/Nixon
Best Production Design -- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Body of Work -- Richard Jenkins for The Visitor, Burn After Reading, Step Brothers and The Tale of Despereaux
Kyle Counts Award -- The San Diego Central Library Film Program for its outstanding contriution to film education and its commitment to eclectic and excellent free public film programs. This award is named for the late San Diego film critic.
