Mini Reviews: October 31
by John P. McCarthy

Here's the Cineman Syndicate Mini Review of Zack and Miri Make a Porno, one of the movies opening on October 31, 2008:

In Kevin (Clerks) Smith's latest, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks play lifelong best friends and impoverished roomies who realize they're in love while making an amateur blue movie to raise cash.

Smith's insistence on turning a raunchy sex farce into a predictably gooey romantic comedy has an unfortunate deflationary effect. Awkward moments outnumber the genuinely funny bits, as his banter often sounds premeditated and he tends to fall back on racial and sexual stereotypes.

Knocked Up, Superbad, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall either never made it to Smith's corner of New Jersey or when they did he studied them too closely. (R) FAIR COMEDY. Capsule review by John P. McCarthy.

Director - Kevin Smith

Lead - Seth Rogen

Running Time - 101 minutes.
