Moving and Powerful
by Betty Jo Tucker

Focusing on the altruistic work of Dr. Patrick Scannon, Last Flight Home tells the story of his efforts to locate information leading to the identification and recovery of the remains of American MIAs from WWII. This documentary may be difficult to watch at times, but it’s a moving and powerful film.

After Scannon researched documents in the National Archives and conducted interviews with veterans, he and his team of volunteers began searching the area around the islands of Palau. Among the aircraft found there were Corsairs, Avengers, Hellcats and B-24s. Why Palau? Because more than 200 aircraft crashed there as battles between the U.S. and Japan raged in the Pacific. And more than half the crew of these planes were still listed as Missing in Action before Scannon began his recovery mission. Surprisingly, these Palau battles had been ignored previously -- with all the attention going to more famous conflicts in Iwo Jima, Kwajelin and Okinawa.

After 60 years, someone finally found a way of thanking the Palau MIAs and their families for the sacrifices of these brave soldiers. A poignant, simple memorial conducted by Scannon and crew for each one found obviously helps loved ones with closure.

Clearly, watching the Last Flight Home is a fitting way to celebrate Memorial Day. For more information about this unique DVD documentary, please go to www.LastFlightHomeFilm.com
