After watching Superman Returns and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, what do movie fans have in store for them during the rest of this summer? Listed below are my candidates for the most promising upcoming offerings. 

My Super Ex-Girlfriend. Uma Thurman portrays a very angry woman jilted by Luke Wilson in this offbeat romantic comedy. The kicker here is that Thurman’s character possesses super powers which she uses to exact revenge. Ouch! (July 21) 

Lady in the Water. Paul Giamatti and Bryce Dallas Howard co-star in M. Night Shyamalan’s latest attempt to scare us out of our senses. The preview intrigues me with its hint of a world existing beneath a normal-looking swimming pool. (July 21)

Monster House. This animated movie boasts a very funny preview about a house that gobbles up whatever comes near its front door. (July 21) 

Little Miss Sunshine. Another dysfunctional family comedy, but one that appears quite appealing, mostly because of darling little Abigail Breslin paired with the likes of funnyman Steve Carell. (July 26)

Miami Vice. In this film version of the terrific TV series, Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell join forces to fight crime -- and I suspect Michael Mann is the right director to make sure things pop on the big screen. (July 28)

The Night Listener. A radio host, played by Robin Williams, and a young fan who calls him on the phone (Rory Culkin) is said to become quite intense in this drama written by Amistead Maupin. (August 4)

World Trade Center. Oliver Stone directed this first major motion picture dealing with the attack on the World Trade Center’s Two Towers. Nicolas Cage stars as one of the Port Authority Policemen trapped in the rubble and then rescued. (August 11)

Step Up. Ballet, hip-hop and romance! Count me in. (August 11)

The Illusionist. A magician living in the Victorian era falls in love with a woman outside his social class in this eagerly-awaited period drama. Tricks and illusions ensue. Edward Norton and Jessica Biel co-star. (August 18)

Snakes on a Plane. Samuel L. Jackson tangles with reptiles loose in an aircraft while in flight. Yikes! ‘Nuff said. (August 18)

How To Eat Fried Worms. First snakes, now worms. Must be the Fear Factor influence. This family comedy with the yucky title is based on Thomas Rockwell’s book of the same name. It’s about what happens when a fifth grade boy challenges the school bully. Be careful what you purchase at the concession stand during this one. (August 25)

The Wicker Man. A remake of the 1973 horror movie about the  disappearance of a young girl and the weird investigation that follows. Nicolas Cage stars. (September 1)

Hollywoodland. Ben Affleck as George Reeves, the actor who first played Superman in the movies?  If we can get past that, this mystery should be a good one. Did Reeves commit suicide or was he murdered? As always, inquiring minds want to know. (September 8)
