How many of you have heard of Sight & Sound Theatres? There are two places where the most powerful stories of all time come to life on the stage. Over 600 people from different backgrounds come together with a passion for live theater with a live scope. People in the Bible such as Noah, Samson, or Jonah are what Sight & Sound want to bring to life in front of a large audience in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as well as in  Branson, Missouri.  

The Lancaster Theater seats 2000 with a panoramic 300-foot performance space. The massive LED screen measures 113 feet wide, 30 feet tall, and a hoist that weighs 24 tons and can fly in and out. First timers will be amazed when live animals enter the theater or actors fly to the top of the ceiling from one side to another.

With almost 21 million individual pixels, the screen lifts Sight & Sound’s visual effects to another level, adding a large-scale diorama of scenes in biblical times.

Dean Sell joined Sight & Sound Theatres® in 2011 to lead the creative services team, and currently serves as Brand Director. Sell earned his degree in recording arts from Full Sail University in Orlando and produced broadcast commercials in radio and TV. Before coming to Sight & Sound, he was a brand films director/producer at an integrated communications agency for clients such as Auntie Anne’s, Chicco, Armstrong World Industries, The Hershey Company and Milton Hershey School.

Over the last two years Sell has spearheaded Sight & Sound’s rebranding efforts, identifying the organization’s unique voice and attributes and through marketing, advertising, public relations and corporate communication. He is currently leading the latest initiative to make Sight & Sound’s productions more accessible to a broader audience through Cinema events.

“The idea of Sight & Sound came from an Amish Dairy Farm couple in Lancaster who were focused on photography and art and who had a vision from God to bring the Bible stories to life by visualizing them.” Sell said.  

Sell, raised in a faith family, is married to Lindsey. They have three children and live in Lancaster where he and hundreds are creating biblical stories in the Sight & Sound Theatres® with the largest LED screens ever used theatrically in the world.

Sell wants to assure people that the live experience of their productions and the theatrical premiere are two different experiences, both great in their own right. He is very excited that Sight & Sound is now parenting with Fathom Events.

 “This will allow audiences to experience these stories like they would at the Sight & Sound theatres, ®” he said. “For more than four decades, Sight & Sound has provided biblically-based entertainment for over 22 million people at their Lancaster and Branson theatres. In the past 10 years, the company started filming their live shows and making DVDs. However, Sell believes God was preparing them for something more.

Committed to bringing the Bible to life on stage in an epic scale, shows staged include the story of Jonah, Jesus, Samson, and now Moses.

Filmed in front of a live audience at Sight & Sound Theatres®, “MOSES” is an original stage production experienced by nearly two million people. Set adrift as a baby and now wandering in the wilderness, Moses is one unlikely hero until God calls him into action. From the Nile River to the Red Sea, journey with Moses as he leads the chosen people on an amazing adventure toward the Promised Land.

“This high-quality production of ‘MOSES’ will be a thrilling experience for attendees of all ages,” Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt, said. “We are excited to bring another Sight & Sound event to movie theaters that display the unique multi-dimensional detail put into their titles.”

“The Sight & Sound experience is really unique,” he said. “Big Bible stories are coming to life in a way that you can't experience anywhere else. It's on a panoramic stage that surrounds the audience on three sides and there's action happening. Not just on the stage but out onto the audience with live animals. When you're sitting in the theatre, there is nothing like it.”

“God works in mysterious ways,” Sell said. “As we look back, we see that he was preparing us for this next step in our journey. When the opportunity presented itself we felt, 'Man, this feels like a really natural next step for us.’ However, when you are watching it on the screen it really feels like you were there and it's a different kind of experience -- you get the intimate experience of seeing the actors up close and you wouldn't be able to have that if you’re sitting live in a theatre.”

“More than a million people come to see one of our shows every year,” Sight & Sound CEO Matt Neff said. “And now for the very first time, instead of audiences coming to us -- we’re going to them.”
