Tanna Frederick on Train to Zakopané
by
Acclaimed actress Tanna Frederick returns to Movie Addict Headquarters on April 17 to talk about her intriguing new movie, Train to Zakopané. An award-winning actress, director, and environmentalist, Tanna was named “Favorite Female Star on MAHQ” by listeners who voted in an e-mail election held in November of 2012. Her upcoming film, written and directed by Henry Jaglom, takes us back to 1928 Poland prior to World War II. Based on a true story, it deals with two strangers who meet on a train and fall for each other despite their very different backgrounds and attitudes about Jews. This movie is scheduled for a May release.
“Spellbinding, stunning, radiant, irresistible, jaw-dropping” -- these are words critics have used to describe Tanna on screen. Her experience includes both plays and film. Her impressive resume includes the following Jaglom films: Hollywood Dreams, The M Word, Irene in Time, Queen of the Lot, Ovation, and 45 Minutes from Broadway. Tanna made her directorial debut while also starring in a theatre production of Why We Have a Body at the Edgemar Center for the Arts. And she appeared in The Farm as a single mother who returns to Iowa to deal with her past.
For her performance in Hollywood Dreams, her first feature with Jaglom (who is now her husband), Tanna was named Best Actress at WorldFest Houston, Montana International Film Festival, Fargo Film Festival and the Wild Rose Film Festival. Among Tanna’s other acting honors are “Performer To Watch” at Method Fest and a “Maverick” Award from the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival.
Off-screen, Tanna is founder of the Iowa Film Festival and -- with the help of famed surfer Shaun Tomson -- started “Project Save Our Surf,” an annual event to raise funds for the Oceana organization in Washington, D. C.
