Charles Pappas: Film Noir on Demand
by Betty Jo Tucker

From April 16 through April 22, Movie Addict Headquarters features an ON DEMAND interview with film historian Charles Pappas, author of Itís a Bitter Little World: The Smartest, Toughest, Nastiest Quotes from Film Noir. Pappas discusses his favorite film noir movies, actors, directors and dialogue in this popular episode. He talks about genre classics like The Maltese Falcon, Gilda, Chinatown, Out of the Past, Gilda, Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard, The Usual Subjects, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction and more. Listeners can hear this show at any time by clicking on the link at the end of this article.

Hopelessly addicted to film noir, Charles Pappas is a mild-mannered writer for Exhibitor magazine and a grandfather, but he admits to still being moderately dangerous. Clearly he loves cynical, dark movies about losers who seek the very thing that gets them killed.

According to film critic Phil Hall, Pappas is ďa smart, sharp observer of all things cinematic." About Itís a Bitter Little World, Hall says, ďSpanning the cinematic experience from the 1940s up to the present, with occasional trips across the Atlantic for snatches of Euro-noir, Pappas has brought the best of noir-talk together into a single collection.Ē
